Is it Claude time?

Peak hours, limit resets and the best time to use Claude

Peak hours are weekdays 5–11 AM Pacific Time. In Claude chat and on the Free plan, your 5-hour session can drain faster during this window. Claude Code on Pro and Max is no longer affected, but these are still Claude's busiest hours for everyone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Claude's peak hours are 5:00 AM to 11:00 AM Pacific Time on weekdays (8 AM–2 PM Eastern, 1–7 PM in London). Anthropic introduced them in March 2026: during this window your 5-hour session limit drains faster than usual. Your weekly limit is not affected.
Partly. On May 6, 2026, Anthropic removed the peak-hour reduction for Claude Code on Pro and Max plans and doubled Claude Code's 5-hour limits. No end has been announced for Claude chat (web, desktop and mobile) or the Free plan, so assume peak hours still count there. Peak hours are also still the busiest time on Anthropic's servers for everyone.
Weekdays before 5 AM or after 11 AM Pacific Time, or any time on weekends. Start long chats, large file uploads and research tasks outside peak hours so your 5-hour session lasts longer.
Claude has two limits. Your 5-hour session starts with your first message and resets five hours later. Your weekly limit resets at a fixed day and time assigned to your account; you can see it under Settings → Usage on claude.ai. Use the timers on this page to count down to both.
With the launch of Opus 5.5 on September 22, 2026, eligible paid plans got a one-time limit reset. Go to Settings → Usage on the web or desktop app and click "Reset for free" to refill your limits immediately. It cannot be undone, is not available on mobile or in the terminal, and the Opus 5.5 offer expires on October 22, 2026.
On September 14, 2026, the temporary 50% weekly boost for Claude Code (running since May) ended and was replaced by a permanent 25% increase for Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise plans. That is more than the original limit but about 17% less than during the boost. The separate Opus-only weekly limit was removed, so you can spend your whole weekly limit on any model.
An "overloaded" (529) error means Anthropic's servers are at capacity. It is not your usage limit, and it usually clears within minutes. It happens most often during weekday peak hours, when US and European working hours overlap, and right after big model launches. Check status.claude.com for live incidents.
All of them: Free, Pro ($20/month), Max 5x ($100/month), Max 20x ($200/month), Team and Enterprise. Anthropic does not publish fixed message counts, because usage depends on message length, file size, the model you pick and features like research and web search.
Put everything into one detailed message instead of many short ones. Start a new chat when a conversation gets long. Keep reusable files in Projects, which count less when reused. Use Sonnet 5.5 for everyday work and save Opus 5.5 or Fable 5.1 for the hardest problems. Check your progress bars under Settings → Usage.
