Claude "Reset for Free": How to Use Your One-Time Limit Reset
When Anthropic launched Claude Opus 5.5 on September 22, 2026, eligible paid plans also got something new: a one-time limit reset. One click refills your usage limits immediately, so you can keep working instead of waiting for your 5-hour session or weekly limit to roll over.
Where to find the reset button
- Open claude.ai in your browser or the Claude desktop app.
- Go to Settings → Usage.
- Find the Resets section ("Get extra wiggle room to explore Opus 5.5").
- Click Reset for free, then confirm.
The reset takes effect right away. It is not available in the mobile apps or in the Claude Code terminal, so use the web or desktop app.
The rules
- One-time: once you use it, it is gone and cannot be undone.
- It expires: an unused reset expires at the date and time shown on the offer. For the Opus 5.5 offer that is October 22, 2026.
- Paid plans only: Anthropic says resets are given "occasionally to eligible plans". Pro, Max and Team users have reported getting this one. If you downgrade or cancel, the reset disappears.
- No refunds: it does not refund earlier extra-usage charges or change your credit balance.
When to use it
You do not have to hit a limit first, but using it early wastes it. The best moment is when you are close to your weekly limit with days left before it resets, since that is the limit that can lock you out the longest. If you only ran out of your 5-hour session, it is usually better to wait: the session resets on its own within five hours.
Not sure how long you would have to wait? Use the reset timers on our homepage to see exactly when your 5-hour session and weekly limit roll over.
Will there be more resets?
Anthropic's help center calls resets something it gives out "occasionally". There is no fixed schedule, so treat each one as a bonus and keep an eye on Settings → Usage after big launches.
